Joan Satow, Graphic Designer & Watercolor Artist

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Born and raised in the Cleveland, Ohio area, I currently live in Berea, Ohio with my husband and two daughters. I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Visual Communications from Ashland University that included an affiliate program with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Between painting and caring for my family, I am also a full-time Graphic Designer.

Covering a diverse subject matter, the variety of my paintings include nature, urban landscapes, architecture, animals, people and abstracts. My goal is to capture the beauty, light and mood of each subject while adding a new personal perspective to each piece. Keeping the paint fresh and loose, my painting style can range between realistic to impressionistic, although impressionistic is my favorite.

I often work from photographic references, but I also enjoy working from life or "plein air". Both approaches are very different and challenging in their own ways. I am constantly learning/experimenting and forever engaged with watercolor painting!
